Category: Leather

Natural rawhide goatskin, with a textured surface. Rawhide has been used for centuries to make saddle trees, drumheads, shields, lamp shades, moccasin soles and many other projects. It also makes great thongs and laces. Rawhide is very rigid because it has not been tanned, only de-haired and cured. When soaked in water it becomes pliable, allowing it to be molded or shaped. During the drying process, rawhide shrinks, stiffens and generally retains whatever shape it was given.

  • Average Size: 6 to 8 sq. ft. (0.56 to 0.74 sq. meters)
  • Tannage: Rawhide

Stella Z. ★★★★★

I'm making a lamp shade from this rawhide and the textured surface catches the light beautifully. It cuts cleanly and holds its shape without any warping, which I really appreciate.

Alexander ★★★★★

I've been using this piece for drumhead repair and the thickness is exactly what I needed for durability. The textured surface gives it great grip when stretching over the frame.

Charlotte ★★★★★

Cutting out a lamp shade pattern was surprisingly easy—the hide holds its shape and lets light through nicely. I’ve used rawhide before for drumheads, but this goatskin is noticeably lighter and more flexible to work with.
