I needed a piece around 4-5 oz. for a bag project, and this chrome-tanned hide was perfectly consistent in thickness across the whole 14 sq. ft. It's soft and easy to work with, even for a beginner like me.

The 14 square feet I got was enough for a couple of projects and the 4-5 oz thickness feels really solid in the hand, not flimsy at all. I've already cut a few straps and the edges burnish up nicely without too much fuss.

The 4 to 5 oz thickness is just right for the card holder I made—sturdy but still easy to stitch. The surface has a nice, even finish with no weird marks or thin spots.
